How to Find Someone in Jail or Prison?
When you know someone in a prison or jail, this can be tough not knowing what charges they are in on, where they are, and how to contact them. When it comes down to finding someone in jail, you will have one or two options.
This first option will more pertain to those inmates in a city or county jail. Many city and county jails do not have a public inmate roster, you can easily search through. When this happens, this is where you will need to locate the number of the facility.
The number of a city jail will typically be on that police departments website, if not, give the police department a call. The number of a county jail will typically be on the counties sheriff’s official website.
You will need to contact the facility directly to inquire about the inmate. When contacting the facility, please have the inmates first and last name, when you believed they were booked, and their date of birth. This will speed up the process.
If you are lucky, and you know that the inmate is not in a city or county jail, but in a state or even federal prison; you will have a much easier time locating an inmate.
All states and federal prisons have their current inmate roster available online for you to easily navigate from the comfort of your own home. You do not have to locate a number and contact the facility. You can search through the database with the information you have at hand and find all the information you need.
You will want to keep in mind that these databases will be updated regularly, so you will want to see when the last time the database was updated if you are not finding out the most current information.
