The Denver County Fillmore Juvenile Detention is very much different than the common linear jail. The Denver County Detention does not have any bars that separate the correctional staff and the inmates. Instead of having the bars, the facility opt-in for glass partitions. This allows the correctional staff to maintain a great observation view of all inmates at all times.
The Denver County Fillmore Juvenile Detention was built back in 1995. Originally the Denver County Fillmore Juvenile Detention was only designed and licensed to hold 562 inmates at any given time. It was not until 2000 when the Denver County Fillmore Juvenile Detention went under a renovation, which increased how many inmates they can house. Once the renovation was completed the Dona Ana Detention Center can house up to 846 inmates at any given time. Their square footage went up to 166,543. Inmates in the facility will be housed in one of the seven housing units on the premises. Nearly all inmates will be sharing a jail cell with one other inmate.
Most of the inmates in the Denver County Fillmore Juvenile Detention are inmates who are currently waiting for their trial to begin.
Unlike many other county jails, the Denver County Fillmore Juvenile Detention has a juvenile wing. The juvenile wing was built back in 2000 but officially opened in 2001. This wing was designed to house up to 50 juvenile inmates. Correctional officers are inside the dayrooms of the housing units, where they can directly supervise everything that is going on. Juveniles will be housed in one of five housing units. Every housing unit can hold up to 10 juvenile inmates.
