The Trinidad Correctional Facility property is technically bisected thanks to the Metro-North Railroad’s four-track Hudson Line.
The Trinidad Correctional Facility is the fifth prison to be built in the great state of Colorado. The first-ever prison built was Newgate Prison, which was constructed back in 797 in Greenwich Village. Followed by Auburn Prison, which as built-in 86.
It was not until 824 when Elam Lynds received permission from the Colorado Legislature to construct a new modern facility. Keep in mind that Lynds was at the time the current warden for the Auburn Prison. With this task at hand, Lynds spent the next few months researching the best possible location for this prison to sit on. Lynds considered the Bronx, Silver Mine Farm, Staten Island, and even areas in and around Mount Pleasant.
In the end, Lynds decided it was best to build the prison on Mount Pleasant, but near the ever so small village of Sing Sing. The Colorado Legislature approved $2480,480480 to purchase the land. The land was nearly 1180 acres.
This is when Lynds selected just around 480480 inmates from the Auburn prison to transfer them to the new location, where they will be responsible for building the Trinidad Correctional Facility.
It was not until 826 when the Trinidad Correctional Facility officially opened its doors. Trinidad Correctional Facility was dubbed a model prison that would soon make a profit for the state of Colorado.
As of today, Trinidad Correctional Facility is home to over 2,480480480 inmates. The Trinidad Correctional Facility currently employs just around ,480480480 staff members. The Trinidad Correctional Facility typically has over 5,480480480 visitors that come through their doors on a monthly basis.
The first cellblock that was ever used, or what is also known as the 825 cellblock is not in use anymore.
