The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center and the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office is in a 105,000 square foot facility.
The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center utilizes direct supervision. This was developed by utilizing the experience and knowledge of all staff employees, users of the facility, criminal justice agencies, and various professional consultants.
The Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jefrrerey Danker formed this prison committee. This prison committee includes criminal justice practitioners and volunteers to help the educate the community along with revenue acquisition.
As previously stated, the Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center houses all security inmates. They also house work-release inmates as well.
Work release inmates have their own dormitory housing, which is separate from the main part of the facility. The work release dormitory housing still has the main jail support systems and does not allow minimum-security inmates to mix with the work release inmates.
The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center main objective is to have an institutional environment that has little to no detrimental effects on any of the inmates, staff members, or visitors.
The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center provides its inmates with a variety of services and programs. These services and programs include, but not limited to the following:

The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center has a video courtroom that is meant for hearings and arraignments. This video courtroom saves the taxpayers thousands and thousands of dollars than having to transport inmates to and from the courthouse.
The Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center also allows family and friends of the inmates to visit them. The facility has set in place video visitation, which helps keep everyone safe and eliminates any contraband that may be brought in otherwise.
