In 1983 the Kiesel Avenue facility was built to take the place of the “old jail” located on top of the City/County building. An addition was built to accommodate a greater number of inmates in 1990. Inmates were transferred to the 12th Street facility in August of 2000. The Kiesel facility was then rearranged to be a work release and community service facility. Inmates that are listed below are placed in the Kiesel Avenue Facility.

Inmates that are in Community Service are assigned to a number of areas within the county including providing assistance to the Story County Transfer Station, Story County Property Management, Story County Animal Shelter, Nevada City, the Story County Fairgrounds and the Story County Sheriff’s Complex.
Work Release inmates are released during the day to go to work and return to the jail when their shift is over at the end of the day.
This Facility has trustees as well. This is where the inmates do various jobs in the jail such as being cooks in the kitchen, working in the commissary and other jobs. The Trustees get paid a small amount and at sometimes the inmate are able to have time taken off of their sentence in exchange for their work.
