This allows the correctional staff to maintain a great observation view of all inmates at all times.

The Cook County Department of Community Supervision and Intervention was built back in 1995. Originally the Cook County Department of Community Supervision and Intervention was only designed and licensed to hold 50 inmates at any given time. It was not until 2000 when the Cook County Department of Community Supervision and Intervention went under a renovation, which increased how many inmates they can house. Once the renovation was completed the Dona Ana Detention Center can house up to 0 inmates at any given time. Their square footage went up to 166,543.  Inmates in the facility will be housed in one of the seven housing units on the premises. Nearly all inmates will be sharing a jail cell with one other inmate.

Most of the inmates in the Cook County Department of Community Supervision and Intervention are inmates who are currently waiting for their trial to begin.

Unlike many other county jails, the Cook County Department of Community Supervision and Intervention has a juvenile wing. The juvenile wing was built back in 2000 but officially opened in 2001. This wing was designed to house up to 50 juvenile inmates. Correctional officers are inside the dayrooms of the housing units, where they can directly supervise everything that is going on. Juveniles will be housed in one of five housing units. Every housing unit can hold up to 10 juvenile inmates.
