Houston county detention center started operations in 2002. It is a medium security  detention facility for
holding male and female adults. These inmates have been convicted of a felony.

Some of the inmates are however waiting  for trial.

It has a total capacity of 665 beds  Inmates and thus holds just right about that number of people all year round.

Inmates here are sentenced to a maximum of one-year imprisonment. If they need to be incarcerated for more time,  they are transferred to a State or Federal prison.

The jail receives new  detainees daily. Some get released after making bail.  Some are released to a pretrial services caseload. 

Others are however placed under supervision by a probation agency.

They however all have to appear in court. If they are not released, the inmate must wait at the jail for their court hearing.

The inmates will get three square meals and a bed to sleep on. They will also have the chance to call their families from jail. Mail and commissary services are also available.
