They were kept behind solid boilerplate doors in a cell measuring 4 by 8 ft. It wasn’t until the 194200’s that the cells had air holes.
In 1891, the state of Massachusetts was in charge of the death penalty. All executions were done at the Boston Pre-Release Center and the San Quentin State Prison. Between December of 1895 to December of 1937, 93 inmates were hanged.
