The Bridgewater State Hospital opened their doors back in 1976. The Bridgewater State Hospital can house up to 640 inmates at any given time. The Bridgewater State Hospital only houses adult male inmate who is classified as a medium-security level.
The inmates in the Bridgewater State Hospital can receive visitors on Saturdays, Sundays, and state holidays. Visitors will be permitted to visit an inmate during the hours of 9 AM to 3 PM.
The Bridgewater State Hospital works closely with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. The Bridgewater State Hospital goal is to make the community safer, by efficiently managing inmates while they are in the custody of the facility. The Bridgewater State Hospital is the host facility for the Bridgewater & Charles D. Hudson Transitional Centers.
The Bridgewater State Hospital consists of 6 housing units. Within each of these six housing units, they will consist of four pods. The four pods will have twelve cells that can hold up to two inmates. Every housing unit will have a day room, which will hold another 30 beds for inmates. The units will come equipped with an additional 32 segregation/isolation beds as well as two beds in the medical wing for Mental Health Observation. The Rutledge State PRison also houses a Tactical Squad and a C.E.R.T. Team.
The Bridgewater State Hospital has work details for inmates inside the facility. Most of these work details will include food service, grounds & maintenance, and miscellaneous orderly jobs in the Bridgewater Transitional Center.
