During the months of August to October in 2012, there was a correctional officer known as Larry Stell and two inmates that were stabbed within the Massachusetts Treatment Center and later died.
In 2013, Commissioner Brian Owens awarded the Massachusetts Treatment Center with the Prison of the Year award.
Inmates in the Massachusetts Treatment Center can receive visits from their family and friends. These visits can be held between 9 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. All visitors will need to be on the inmate’s visitor list and maintain a professional level of courtesy while in the walls of the facility.
The Massachusetts Treatment Center main mission is to ensure the safety of the community and also the safety of all inmates that they house. The Massachusetts Treatment Center houses general population inmates and close-security inmates. The Massachusetts Treatment Center is a level 1 and level 2 facility. The facility also offers a vegan diet as well.
The Massachusetts Treatment Center is composed of 20 housing units. 5 of these housing units consist of double-bunked cells. Two of these housing units are open dormitory-style living, while the remaining cell is strictly used as the segregation/isolation unit. The segregation/isolation unit has 40 double-bunked cells and 40 single cells.
The Massachusetts Treatment Center also has a tactical squad and a CERT Team.
