Today it functions as a direct supervision facility that ensures the safety of members of staff, visitors, and inmates.
All correctional officers at the facility have been certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy but they have also received additional training from NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) in Maine in order to improve communication and other skills.
There are a total of 70 individuals on staff, with employees working 24/7 on a split shift schedule under the supervision of Sheriff Dale P. Lancaster. Correctional officers are required to have a minimum of 7 years of experience.
Inmates include both male and female adults who have been charged or convicted of crimes that fall under state law. The jail has a budget capacity of 192 but accommodations are available for up to 234 persons.
