The Mason County Jail was designed and built back in 1958. When the Mason County Jail opened back in 1958, the facility was only licensed to house up to 45 inmates at any given time.
It was not until nearly 40 years later in 1999, when the Mason County Jail went under a major renovation. This renovation was going to double the innate capacity to help with the overcrowding issues the Mason County Jail has been enduring. The renovation in 1999 brought the facility up to 104 inmates they can house at any given time.
The Mason County Jail only employs 17 correctional officers to run the facility. The correctional officers that run this facility will be required to undergo continuous training to ensure they are up to date on technology and safety protocol to keep inmates, themselves, and visitors safe from any and all situations.
The Mason County Jail comes equipped with a full-service kitchen. The full-service kitchen will provide the inmates in the facility their meals every day. This full-service kitchen was added to the facility back in 2006. The kitchen comes with 3 kitchen workers.
In the lobby of the Mason County Jail, friends and family of inmates can use the kiosk to deposit money into their inmate’s account. This money in the inmate’s account will then can be used to purchase various items in the facilities commissary store.
The Mason County Jail offers many rehabilitative services and religious services that inmates can participate in. These rehabilitative services are here to help inmates not re-offend once they get released from the facility.
Then in 2013, Sheriff Cole put in place the inmate work crew program. This inmate work crew program is where inmates who are minimum-security, non-violent offenders can come out into the community under the supervision of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office to clean up the roadways, help with charitable organizations, among other community service tasks. This program allows the county to save thousands of dollars each year.
