Detroit, MI is home to the Detroit Reentry Center in Wayne County which is a medium-security state prison. However, there is a maximum security building within this facility. The maximum-security inmates are housed in cells with bunks. Several times throughout the day the inmates in the maximum-security building are let ou onto porches for several hours. The porches resemble their cell except for it is surrounded by a fence and it is outside.
This Detroit Reentry Center has the capacity to house as many as 1,716 adult male inmates.
The inmates eat, get dressed, use the restroom, and even shower in the company of other inmates leaving them with little to no privacy. Inmates receive 3 meals a day but are not given much time to eat and are not allowed to have seconds.
The Detroit Reentry Center contracts out their medical, mental and dental services for the inmates to utilize when needed.
Inmates housed in the Detroit Reentry Center participate in the following treatment programs that go along with the inmate’s needs:

- Residential Crisis Treatment Program – This program is for inmates that suffer from acute mental illnesses.

Vocational training will allow inmates to learn a new skill for when they are released back into the community. The inmate will be able to find a job using the new skill they have learned and achieved here in prison.
