Ionia, MI is home to the Ionia Correctional Facility. This facility is a mixed security state prison that houses medium and maximum security V inmates. The Ionia Correctional Facility opened in 1987. John Davids is the warden at this facility.
The Ionia Maximum Facility is made up of five Level V housing units as well as two Level II housing units. Two of the Level V housing units are for Administrative Segregation, that consist of Detention and Temporary Segregation cells. Three of the units are general population units with one being the START NOW Program. Level V housing is made up of five bi-level, double-winged single cell units. Every unit has the following amenities for the Level V inmates to use:

- Fence-in Activity & Recreational Yard
The Units for Administrative Segregation allow inmates outdoor recreation in single occupancy security exercise modules.
The Level II housing is made up of a large pole-barn construction divided into two units with 140 beds in every unit. There are showers, laundry, and recreation areas in the units. The inmates at Level II have separate yard areas, with access to the amenities listed below:

- Basketball Courts
- Volleyball
- Softball
- Horseshoes
- Running Track.
Level V inmates are able to work at the Michigan State Industries factory. This factory employs about 80 prisoners.
