The Michigan Reformatory is one unit that is a part of the Michigan State Prison Complex Eyman. The Michigan Reformatory is under the close eye of the Michigan Department of Corrections. The Michigan Department of Corrections is also responsible for 12 other facilities within the state of Michigan as well.
The Michigan Reformatory is a supermax-facility or what is known as a level 5 facility. What is a supermax facility you might ask? Supermax is where inmates are some of the most dangerous inmates within the Michigan prison system. These inmates in Michigan Reformatory are on lockdown for 23 hours a day. They will sit in their cells all day, except for one hour out of the day where they can have yard time.
The Michigan Reformatory is broken down into a few different classifications. These classifications go as follows:
- General Population
- Protective Custody
- Sex Offenders
- Mental Health Watch
These classifications will not co-mingle with one another. They are kept in their own little area to ensure that the peace inside the Michigan Reformatory is kept.
However, if you would like to receive a phone call or even visit an inmate while they are in Michigan Reformatory, you will need to fill out this application. This application has a fee of $25. In order to be eligible, you cannot be a felon yourself. If you are a felon, you will have your application declined.
Also, you will want to keep in mind that the phone calls and visitation will need to be scheduled in advance as well due to the facility being a supermax state facility.
