Heading to the Northern State Correctional Facility in St. Paul? You’re in luck because it’s still standing and still doing its job. This correctional facility has one job and that’s to keep inmates safe. Inmates held in this facility either committed a crime in St. Paul or in surrounding areas.
Visiting an Inmate
If you’d like to visit an inmate at the Northern State Correctional Facility, you can. However, your first step will be to get in touch with the prison so become qualified to visit with an inmate. All inmates can have visitors, but everyone must also follow protocol.
You will also need to figure out when the visitation schedule is. Keep in mind that sometimes visitations are canceled without warning. If you’re going to visit an inmate, then there are certain requirements.
You must have a valid ID when you come to visit. You have to be dressed right and if you’re not, you could be turned away from visiting. You can’t arrive any more than 5 minutes before a scheduled visit.

A-D Saturdays 9 – am
E-L Saturdays – 3 pm
M-R Sundays 9 – am
S-Z Sundays – 3 pm
Communicating with an Inmate

You can have phone conversations with an inmate. However, keep in mind that an inmate can only call you and you cannot call an inmate.
You can write a letter to an inmate. However, it will be inspected, so keep this in mind as you send mail to an inmate at the Sentencing Guidelines Commission.
