Missouri Eastern Correctional Center is commonly known as the Missouri State Prison, Centinela. The Missouri Eastern Correctional Center is operated and managed by the Missouri Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Ever since 1997, the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center has been one of the most overcrowded state prisons within all of the state of Missouri. It is commonly running at 259 percent capacity.
There is much less supervision of inmate movement within the prison than at any other custody level. They live in dormitories on a campus that resembles a school more than a prison. Inmates assigned to Missouri State Prison-Pacific West generally pose the least risk to public safety. Inmates must have less than 8 years on their sentence, be non-violent with a clear disciplinary history to qualify for minimum designation.
in 2016, the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center opened up their first library facility for the inmates to use and take advantage of.
The Level III Special Needs Housing units is a two-tier building. The entire Missouri Eastern Correctional Center is enclosed with an electric fence along with two razor wire on top of a chain link fence. They have 100 double occupancy cells and enclosed with razor wire and a chain link fence.
Work release opportunities are also available for inmates who qualify. In addition, inmates are offered religious services, Bible studies, and counseling.
