The Tipton Correctional Center is situated in Tipton, Missouri. The Tipton Correctional Center is also operated and managed by the Missouri Department of Corrections. However, as of late 2017, the Missouri Department of Corrections officially came out and stated that Tipton Correctional Center in Tipton, Missouri will be shutting down for good. The Tipton Correctional Center will no longer be used as a correctional facility and will no longer be housing any inmates shortly.

This came as a surprise to many individuals because the Tipton Correctional Center has been around since the beginning of time in Tipton, Missouri. But the Missouri Department of Corrections stated that they spent a good solid two years looking into the Tipton Correctional Center staffing levels. The Missouri Department of Corrections also was trying to build a plan that will also cease operations in a few other selected facilities a well.

It was not until a few months ago when a report came out from the Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood; an architectural and engineering firm that stated that the Tipton Correctional Center would cost over $30 million in repairs alone to just meet the minimum standards to keep the facility operational.

If you do not know this already the Tipton Correctional Center opened it’s doors back in 1938. The Tipton Correctional Center is one of Missouri’s oldest prisons. The Missouri Department of Corrections now believes that the facility has officially outlived its useful life.

The Tipton Correctional Center was originally designed to house only 600 inmates at one time, but the Tipton Correctional Center currently houses up to 1,000 inmates at a given time, which is almost double the occupancy, it was designed for.

However, when the Tipton Correctional Center closes its doors the building will then turn into a place for educational and vocational training programs for inmates who are kept in correctional facilities nearby. These programs will be held by the J.F Ingram State Technical College.

All staff members who work for the Tipton Correctional Center will not lose their job. They will be transferred to other correctional facilities within Montgomery and Tipton counties. While the staff members will be moved to other correctional facilities the inmates will also be transferred to these other correctional facilities as well. With these changes the following correctional facilities are expected to see an increase of 20 to 25 percent in their staffing levels:
