Marion County Jail, MS Inmate Search, Mugshots, Prison Roster
In 1977, the Marion County Jail opened its doors. When the facility opened up, it was designed to the only house up to 31 inmates at a given time. The Marion County Jail was connected to the already existing Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The facility was only designed to house twenty-two males, two juveniles, four females, alongside three special use cells. The Marion County Jail employed only 10 staff members, which consist of 8 correctional officers and 2 supervisors.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office elected a new Sheriff back in January of 2007. Since then, the Marion County Jail underwent many changes. These changes included staffing as well. As of today, there are two supervisors. One of these supervisors is known as the Jail Director. The Jail Director watches over the day to day jail operations, while the second supervisor is a certified law enforcement officers.
The population in the Marion County Jail has doubled since the new sheriff was elected back in January of 2007. This is mainly due to the number of sentencings and arrests. When the new sheriff came into office they allowed cotting, which was to hold all inmates in this facility instead of holding them in other facilities. This was supposed to be a cost-saving solution for Marion County.
