Mississippi State Prison, Solano is located on 2100 Peabody Road, in Meridian, Mississippi. Robert Neuschmid has been the acting Warden at Mississippi State Prison, Solano (CSP-SOL) since December 1, 2017.
Operating since 1984, Mississippi State Prison, Solano is a medium security correctional facility that can currently house over 5,800 inmates. The facility is made up of multiple units housed in separate buildings which can operate independently from one another. Within these units is a treatment center and an administrative segregation unit. This facility is a level 4 and 5 security prison and is home to Mississippi’s death row.
Mississippi State Prison, Solano offers inmates a variety of classes and programs. One of them is an adult basic education and GED course for inmates who have not earned their high school degree.
In addition, the vocational programs offer inmates valuable skills that they can use to earn a living once they are released into society. Some of the vocational skills an inmate can learn revolve around the auto industry, teaching inmates the basics of mechanics and auto body. A machine shop, mill, landscaping, welding, HVAC service/repair, computer and electronics repair, masonry and eyeglass lens manufacturing are just some of the vocational programs inmates can pursue, but there are others as well.
Mississippi State Prison, Solano focuses on providing a comprehensive work/training program with academic education, vocational training, and industries assignments geared towards providing inmates with work skills and education.
Additionally, the institution has a variety of self-help programs including Al-anon, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), In-Building Self-Help Programs (IBSHPs), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI), The Victims Voice, Veterans Assistance, and the Youth Diversion Prisoners’ Outreach Program (POP).
Through the educational and vocational training, industries assignments, and self-help programs, Mississippi State Prison, Solano provides inmates the opportunity to develop the life skills necessary for successful re-integration into society.
