The Southern North Carolina Re-entry Center (SMRC) is located in Cumberland County in Windham, North Carolina.
This facility is designed to give women the skills and experience necessary to successfully live as law-abiding citizens and employees after they are reintegrated into the general population from state correctional facilities.
Emphasis is heavily placed on reducing the risks of becoming re-offenders and on increasing their positive involvement in their communities.
The persons in this women’s reentry center are taught to search for employment in high growth/high demand careers, on reuniting with their families, learning and using effective parenting skills, having stable housing after their release, remaining free of drugs and alcohol, developing positive social friendships and activities, being active citizens in their communities and being able to make healthy life choices.
The Center houses up to 64 adult women.
Women who are eligible for this reentry center must have served at least 20 days of her sentence and have approximately one year left to serve.
