Originally the Boyd County Jail was once a small frame building. The Boyd County Jail was nestled into the southeast section of the courtyard.
The original Boyd County Jail was actually designed and built around 1915 to 1916. This is one of the three county jails that are like this in the entire state of Nebraska.
The original Boyd County Jail is so small that it only has two jail cells. Each of the jail cells can house up to 4 people each. Each jail cell comes equipped with a quirky sink. The Boyd County Jail is known for its use of Tudor-style motifs. The original Boyd County Jail was in use until 1983. This was when the new and improved facility opened their doors.
Over the years many people stayed in the old original Boyd County Jail. Many of the Boyd County locals have fond memories of staying in the original facility that they call it “fine lodging facility.” The Clerk’s Office runs tours for the old original Boyd County Jail.
