Diagnostic and Evaluation Center Inmate Search and Prison Information
In 1976 the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center was established by the Nebraska Legislature in 1976 as part of Legislative Bill 984. In June of 1979, the construction of this facility was finished and was opened in August of 1979. The Nebraska Department of Corrections manages this facility.
The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center is a 160-bed maximum custody, reception, diagnostic, evaluation, assessment, classification and assignment facility located in Lincoln, NE.
There are nine inmate housing units and a skilled nursing facility, which includes 12 licensed skilled nursing beds and a fully-staffed initial admission clinic within the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center. This facility is a single structure with two stories. On the upper level, there are administrative offices and the skilled nursing facility. The lower level includes programming areas, including a gymnasium and custody and case management offices as well as all the other inmate housing.
Since 1981 the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center has been accredited by the American Correctional Association.
The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center provides a number of educational programs for its inmates which includes the following:
- Adult Basic Education
- G. E. D.
- College Courses
- Metro Community College Credit Classes
- ESL/ELL
The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center also provides a large amount of non-clinical programs that are designed to address the way a person thinks and behaves. Volunteers and NDCS staff members, including security staff, unit staff, teachers, and administrators are the ones who make these programs happen. This facility also provides a large variety of clinical treatments as well. Just several of these programs are listed below but there are many more:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression
- Aggression Replacement Therapy (ART)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Anxiety Group
- Anger Management
- Continuing Care-Sex Offender Program
- Major Mental Health Group
- Dialectic Behavioral Therapy
- Violence Reduction Program
The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center also provides a large variety of vocational and life skills training for its inmates to participate in.
