The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home is nestled in Bordentown, New Jersey. The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home is under the management and daily operation here at the New Jersey Department of Corrections. The New Jersey Department of Corrections is the agency that is responsible for ensuring that the D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home is up to state and national standards.
The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home is a maximum-security state facility. The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home specializes in keeping inmates who are very difficult for other facilities to manage. Most of the inmates in the D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home have many behavioral issues that the other state facilities are not equipped to handle.
The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home offers these inmates a secure, yet safe environment that can help modify inmate’s behaviors to a more acceptable level, where they can later be returned back into the general population group.
The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home consists of two housing units. Within these housing units, you will find nearly 211 general population inmates, alongside the disciplinary/segregation units. However, here at the D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home, they can only house up to 500 adult male inmates at one given time.
The D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home is all about privilege. They want their inmates to earn privilege through good behavior. This is why the D.O.V.E.S. Residential Community Home put together a three-phase system. This system will reward inmates for their excellent behavior all while giving them privileges such as earned wages, phone calls, television time, leisure time, canteen items, dayroom time, group education, group treatment, property allowance, and group recreation.
When an inmate displays good behavior for a certain length of time, they may be eligible to go into a less restrictive maximum-security state facility. However, in order for this to happen, the inmates will have to go through this three-phase system. Inmates going through this system will need to partake in programs such as rational emotive therapy, anger management, cognitive group intervention program, fee your minds, turning point, and life skills classes.
However, if an inmate does not display good behavior, they will be kept in administrative confinement. Most of the inmates that are in the New Jersey Secure Program facility are in administrative confinement for months or even years. This is where they will have NO contact with anyone for at least 22 hours every single day.
