Springer Correctional Center is a state prison located in Springer, New Mexico in Colfax County.
Springer Correctional Center is made up of several buildings, many of which serve different purposes and include buildings for level 1, 111 and 1V inmates, a security housing unit, Protective Housing Unit, Prison Industry Authority, Administrative Segregation Unit, Long-Term Restricted Housing, Enhanced Program Facility and a Correctional Treatment Center.
The inmates housed here are placed according to their custody level which is determined at intake. There are many educational and vocational training programs for all inmates who are serving time at Springer Correctional Center. New Mexico’s mission is to prepare the inmate to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never return to prison and thus lower the state’s recidivism rate.
The Work Incentive Pay Plan (WIPP) allows inmates to utilize experience, training, and expertise in employment. New Mexico Correctional Industries contracted positions, Wild Land Fire Crew, kitchen positions, groundskeepers, and janitorial positions are available depending upon the inmate’s skill level, education, and security classification. Both full and part-time positions are available.
Adult Basic Education classes are required for inmates who fall below the Literacy Standard. A high school education program is available for inmates who have not graduated from high school. Vocational education is contracted through a local community college and provides instruction in carpentry, masonry, and plumbing. Higher education is available through correspondence courses.

Inmates are also given the opportunity to attend religious services and to talk with a Chaplain whenever they wish. They are able to go outside daily for recreation time where they can exercise.
