This facility was originally named Auburn Prison and was renamed to Auburn Correctional Facility in 1970. In 1890 this facility had the first execution by electric chair.

The Auburn Correctional Facility houses their inmates in five separate blocks which are A, B, C, and D.
This facility offers vocational training that includes the following:

- Flooring Installation
- Drafting
- Electrical
- Masonry
- General Business
- Painting
- Welding
Vocational training allows the inmates to learn a new skill to take with them when they are released from prison. The skills that they achieve will help them to get and hold a job so they will be able to support themselves and be able to do work that is meaningful.
Inmates are also able to earn their associates degree through a program that is provided by the Cayuga Community College.
The Auburn Correctional Facility also provides the following programs and services for their inmates to be able to better help themselves and prepare them for when they are released:

- G.E.D. Program
- Mental Health Care
- Medical Health Care
The medical and mental health care services are services that are contracted out. Inmates leave the prison when they are released in better shape than when they first arrived at the prison when they are willing to change and participate in the programs and work on themselves.
