There are many educational and vocational training programs for all inmates. This facility’s mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never return to prison, thus lowering the New York’s recidivism rate.

Every inmate housed at Highland Residential Center has the opportunity to get the treatment they need. While they’re housed in a state prison in North Carolina, they will have access to various treatment options. Some of those treatment options include:

Each program is designed to help the inmate and overall meet their individual treatment needs.
Those who are serving their sentence in Mountain View Correctional Institution may have a history with substance abuse. Up to eighty percent of the inmates serving time here have a history of substance abuse. Alcoholic and Narcotics Anonymous meetings are available to all inmates.
Inmates at Highland Residential Center are allowed recreation time outside each day, where they can play sports or exercise. Inmates are given three meals a day, along with snacks that they can purchase from the commissary. All meals are approved by a dietician.
