MacCormick Secure Center is a medium-security prison located in Brooktondale, New York. It was originally built as a male Probation Detention Center in 1990 and reopened in 2012 for adult female inmates. This facility is an integrated treatment facility for female probation violators with co-occurring conditions who receive mental health and substance abuse treatment as well as female inmates who support the work mission of the facility. The current capacity is 39 inmates.
MacCormick Secure Center is an open-dormitory style prison. There are four open dormitories with bunk beds, housing 46 in each dorm. There are also five isolation/segregation cells.
Inmates at MacCormick Secure Center are placed according to their custody level which is determined at intake. The mission of this facility is to prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never return to prison and thus lower New York’s recidivism rate.
There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates at MacCormick Secure Center Center including a General Education Program, counseling, recreation, and parenting classes.
All inmates are provided with medical and dental treatment. Employment preparation, pre-release preparation, and substance abuse education are also some of the programs offered. Offenders can also participate in faith-based worship services and studies. Clergy are also available to meet with inmates at their request.
Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are among the substance abuse programs that are available to inmates. Inmates are allowed recreation time each day where they can go outside and exercise or play sports.
Inmates at this facility are fed three meals a day which are prepared by the kitchen staff and the prison Trustees. Trustees are inmates who work within the prison and earn a small amount for their services. Inmates can also purchase snacks from the commissary. All meals are approved by a dietician.
