The Marion County Jail is also commonly known as the Marion County Corrections Center. The Marion County Jail is a division that is under the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The facility is located in the same building as the Public Safety Building in East Marion.
The Marion County Corrections Center was designed and constructed back in the 1980s. It was designed to hold only 45 inmates at a given time.
It was not until 2012 when the Marion County opened the Annex was constructed and opened their doors. This helped increase the number of inmates they can hold. The Annex brought the grand total of inmates up to 209. However, as of current the facility typically only averages 90 inmates.
The Marion County Corrections Center employs people with the following job titles:
- Control Room Operators
- Corrections Commander
- Corrections Corporals
- Corrections Lieutenant
- Corrections Sergeants
- Correction Officers
- Law Enforcement Clerks
The Control Room Operators along with the Correctional Officers will work on 12-hour shifts. The Marion County Corrections Officers comes equipped with a full law enforcement authority, at the direction of the Sheriff.
All Correctional Officers that are employed by the Marion County Corrections Center will be required to take the 4-week Corrections Officers Academy that is held by the Criminal Justice Training Center located in Burien, Ohio.
The Corrections Officers Academy will focus on the following topics:
- Inmate Communication
- Custody Care
- Officer Safety
- Proper Search Techniques
