The inmate’s behavior determines what privileges the inmate will have. When inmates show positive behavior they are able to earn more privileges and even transition to other areas. Only the inmates that are on death-row do not have this opportunity unless their sentence is overturned or commuted to life. There are nine men on death row in the state of Ohio.
The prison’s Receiving and Orientation unit is in Uinta 35 for male inmates. The capacity for this unit is 22 inmates. The following offenders are held in this unit:
- Offenders that violate terms of their probation and are sentenced to prison time by a judge.
- Offenders who violate conditions of their parole
- offenders that are newly sentenced offenders
Inmates in Uinta 35 are able to access programming and interact with other inmates is temporarily limited as staff estimates each inmate’s needs, as well as their behaviors, are decided where the inmate will be housed.
