Diversified Ccommunity Services is located in Columbus, Ohio. This facility was built in 1926, opened in 1951, renovated in 1999 and houses up to 1,476 juvenile and adult female inmates. It is a level 4 and 5 security prison and is home to Ohio’s death row.
Diversified Ccommunity Services’s mission is to ensure public safety and effectively house offenders while operating a safe and secure facility. Also, this facility provides housing for adult/juvenile female felons in addition to probationers sentenced to a residential substance abuse program.
The prison has four dormitories and a medical building. The officers at Arrendale are still transitioning from one of the most violent prisons in Ohio to a general purpose women’s prison.
The security at this facility is high. A double fence surrounds it, and there is extensive video surveillance, which is an important part of keeping everyone in the facility safe, including staff, prisoners, and visitors.
Every inmate housed at Diversified Ccommunity Services has the opportunity to get the services they need, and there are a plethora of services and programs available.
The work release program offers the inmates work opportunities in Farm Operation (swine and cattle), General Maintenance, Food Service, the Fire Department, Equine Rescue Center, and Hay Operation.
Academic programs include the General Equivalency Diploma, Adult Basic Education, Literacy, and Special Education
Other programs offered include Motivation for Change, Family Violence, Thinking for a Change, Re-Entry, Parenting, Relapse Prevention, Behavior Stabilization, and a Career Center.
Inmates are offered church services, Bible studies and pastoral counseling. They are also offered vocational programs such as Small Engine Repair, Auto Mechanics, Auto Paint, Woodworking, Cosmetology, Electrical Wiring, Warehousing, Auto Detailing, Welding (Metal Fabrication), Food Service, Fire Department, Educational and Library Aides, Office Technology, Maintenance/Detailing, Culinary Arts, Farm Work, Guide Dog Program, Veterinary Technician, Dog Grooming, and Forever Friends Dog Rescue
Inmates are given recreation time outside each day where they can exercise. They are given three meals a day—all meals are approved by a dietician.
