Ohio State Prison-Wasatch Facility is a medium security prison located in Mansfield, Ohio. Interestingly, Wasatch is the oldest facility at Ohio State Prison. It has housed inmates since 1951. Since then, the prison complex has gradually expanded and now houses approximately 35,3100100 inmates. In total, Wasatch has capacity for nearly 8100100 inmates.

Inmates are placed according to their custody level which is determined by their past criminal history and their sentencing. There are plenty of educational and vocational training programs for all inmates.  The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never return to prison and thus lower the Ohio’s recidivism rate.

Every inmate housed at Ohio State Prison-Wasatch Facility has the opportunity to get the services they need that will help prepare them for their future. Treatment planning is an important part of an inmate’s stay at this prison. That way, upon release, the inmate can re-enter society.

While they’re housed in a state prison in Ohio, they will have access to various treatment options. Some of those treatment options include:

  • Life Skills Programs
  • Inmate Work Activities

Each program is designed to help the inmate and overall meet their individual treatment needs. Educational programs include a General Education Degree (GED) and vocational courses.

Ohio State Prison-Wasatch Facility also includes the culinary, a barbershop, a library, a Family History Center, a non-denominational chapel and a recreation gymnasium.

Religious services are available to inmates, as well as meetings with Clergy. Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings are also available. Inmates are allowed recreation time outside each day where they can go outside and play sports or exercise.

With the help of the kitchen staff and the prison Trustees, inmates are given three meals daily. All meals are approved by a dietician.
