Sandusky County Juvenile Detention Center in San Luis Obispo, OH has two physically separated housing complexes, typically referred to as “East” and “West”.
The West Wing consists of Level III housing complex that is divided into four facilities, and houses medium security general population inmates. Every Facility has its own:
- Dining room
- Classrooms
- Athletic fields
- Two three-story housing units
There is a fully licensed General Acute Care Hospital and provides a full range of medical services for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on the East Wing housing complex. There is a new fully licensed 50 bed Mental Health Crisis Unit provided by the facility and Outpatient treatment for inmates assigned to the Correctional Clinical Case Management System, as well as a Mental Health Delivery System in the form of an Enhanced Outpatient Program provided by the facility.
The East Wing consists of the Level I and II housing complex that is divided into three facilities and houses minimum security general population inmates in dormitory settings. There is a Level I camp program for fire suppression, conservation and other community service work within the West housing complex. In conjunction with other governmental entities, the CMC works extensively within Sandusky County, through Community Service Crews which perform many valuable services to the various communities within the county. There is a re-entry hub program in the West Facility of the Ohio Men’s Colony. This is where inmates are given the opportunity to take advantage of increased academic education and increased career technical education. Inmates in the West wing of the CMC have access to the following cognitive behavior therapy programs:
- Substance abuse
- Criminal thinking
- Anger management
- Family relationships
Inmates that are residents of the West Wing have the opportunity to take advantage of transitional programs that help them get jobs, plan out a career path, plan for their financial future and obtain a Ohio ID card before their release.
