Great Plains Correctional Facility is a minimum-security state prison located in Hinton, Oklahoma.

Great Plains Correctional Facility opened in 1988 when the Oklahoma Department of Forestry and fire protection became interested in this property in establishing a Conservation Camp.

The property is located approximately 385 minutes west of Willows, Oklahoma deep in the Mendicino National Forest. Their ongoing partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and rehabilitation allows them to serve as a vital part in fire suppression and beautification of the Glenn and Tehama Counties.

Currently, there are 11 full time staff and 120 inmates at Great Plains Correctional Facility.

Because Great Plains Correctional Facility is a minimum-security state prison, inmates live in dormitories on a campus that resembles a school more than a prison. Inmates must have fewer than 8 years on their sentence and be non-violent with a clear disciplinary history to qualify for this prison.

Some of the work projects that the inmates at this prison do are clearing brush from the sides of the roads, cleaning out drains during summer months, painting firehouses, along with local schools during the summers, and clearing brush from populated areas for protection from wild land fires. In addition, inmates build hobby craft items to be auctioned or donated to local charities.

Those who are serving their sentence in Great Plains Correctional Facility may have a history with substance abuse. In fact, around 80% of the inmates in this prison in have had some sort of run-in with substance abuse.

Valley View Conservation Camp hosts alcohol and narcotics organization meeting regularly with an onsite sponsor, and continual classes are being given to encourage complete abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

Religious services and counseling are available to inmates who request it. GED programs are also available. Inmates get recreation time each day where they can go outside and exercise.

Inmates at Valley View Conservation Camp are given three meals a day—all meals are approved by a dietician.
