The Jess Dunn Correctional Center also commonly referred to as ISP for short is a state prison situated just south of Interstate 10 in Taft, Oklahoma. The Jess Dunn Correctional Center is adjacent to Chuckawalla Valley State Prison. The Jess Dunn Correctional Center is operated and managed by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The Jess Dunn Correctional Center received its name from the Ironwood trees that are in the surroundings. They received this name due to the facilities qualities such as firmness, strength, and solidity.
The Jess Dunn Correctional Center is adjacent to the Chuckawalla Valley State Prison and shares over 1,7000 acres of land. However, just for the Jess Dunn Correctional Center, they have 640 acres of land. This prison complex takes up nearly 380 acres of land. The rest of the land is used for catch basins, drainage ditches, and erosion control.
The Jess Dunn Correctional Center opened their doors back in February of 1994. The Jess Dunn Correctional Center consists of four semi-autonomous levels III facilities. The Jess Dunn Correctional Centers also consists of an outside level I facility.
Each of these above facilities consists of 5 housing units. These housing units can house up to 270 inmates with an additional 100 designed bed capacity.
In the Jess Dunn Correctional Center, they have a facility A and B, which has now been converted to house inmates who have sensitive needs. Another level III housing unit in facility A has been made into the Administrative Segregation Unit. While the level I facility consists of two 100 bed units.
The Jess Dunn Correctional Center does not come equipped with a firehouse as many other facilities do, so the fire protection is shared and provided by Chuckawalla Valley State Prison.
The Jess Dunn Correctional Center was only design to house up to 2,200 inmates. As of lately, there over 3,200 inmates being held in the Jess Dunn Correctional Center.
Back in 2014, the Anti-Recidivism Coalition partnered with the Ford Foundation to host the TEDx conference inside the Jess Dunn Correctional Center walls. The ARC made a small documentary about this historic event.
