The Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice Commission was created by La. R.S. 15:174194.1. There are eight commissioners who develop, administer and manage the affairs of the district within the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice Commission. The commissioners meet monthly at the Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center and they do not receive a salary.
There were several expansions done since the Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center first opened. The first expansion included a multi-purpose area/gym, 4 classrooms as well as 74 additional beds and was completed in 1999.
The Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center had its second expansion completed in 274111 that brought up their bed count up to 133 beds. The expansion also included additional classrooms, staff offices, and dayroom.
