It was not until the following year, in 1983 when the Lexington Assessment & Reception Center opened its doors for the first time. In order for an inmate to receive a visitor, they must submit all potential inmates to contact information, to the appropriate staff member. Once the visitors are vetting and approved, the visitors will be permitted on the Lexington Assessment & Reception Center grounds.
All visitors looking to visit an inmate, will not only need to be on the list, but they will also need to have their photo identification card ready to show the correctional officers. All personal belongings will need to be left in the vehicle.
The general population inmates in the Lexington Assessment & Reception Center will be permitted to have visitors on Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal Holidays. However, inmates in segregation in the Lexington Assessment & Reception Center will be permitted to have visitors on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The main mission here at the Lexington Assessment & Reception Center is to house inmates while keeping a safe and secure environment with many rehabilitation programs for all inmates to partake in.
The Lexington Assessment & Reception Center is composed of 19 house buildings. These house buildings are then divided into two. These sections can house up to 550 inmates. They are domority style housing. However, one of the buildings consist of the segregation/isolation unit; 450 segregation beds and 150 isolation beds.
