Oklahoma State Prison is situated in McAlester, Oklahoma. McAlester is situated in Pittsburg County. The Oklahoma State Prison was once known as the McAlester State Prison. It was known as the McAlester State Prison until the name changed to Oklahoma State Prison in 1988.
The Oklahoma State Prison is composed of three units. These units will include the Ancora Unit, the Farm, and the Medium facility. The Oklahoma State Prison is situated on 1,148 acres of woods and farmland.
Inmates who are in the Oklahoma State Prison will be permitted to have dental, psychiatric, and medical treatments. The Oklahoma State Prison also offers educational and vocational classes as well.
As of late, the current population in the Oklahoma State Prison is 2,210 adult males. The facility does not house any adult female inmates.
Inmates in the Oklahoma State Prison are permitted to have visitors. It will be the inmate’s job to submit a list of potential visitors names and addresses. If you are not on the inmate’s visitor list and would like to be, you will need to contact the inmate whether it is by writing or waiting for him to contact you by phone. The inmate will then submit your name and address on his list. You will be required to wait for the inmate to contact you to tell you that you are approved to visit them.
The most common people that will be approved to visit an inmate in the Oklahoma State Prison will be one of the following:
- Close Friends
- Relatives
- Clergy
- Individuals who may provide constructive influence upon the inmate
- Children (must be with their adult family member)
Attorneys of the inmates will be permitted to visit an inmate. However, the attorney’s will need to give a minimum of 24-hour notice to ensure the Oklahoma State Prison has the inmate, space, and staff ready for this meeting.
Inmates will only be permitted visitors at certain times during Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. All visitors who will be visiting an inmate in the Oklahoma State Prison will need to have one of the following photo identification:
- Current Passport
- Driver’s License
- Employment Photo ID
- Current Welfare/Medicaid Card with Photo
As long as there is enough space inmates in the Oklahoma State Prison will be permitted to have 6 visitors at one time. Visitors will have the option to bring a certified check or a money order to put money on the inmates’ books. However, every other personal belonging will need to be kept tucked away in the visitor’s vehicles. No personal belongings will be permitted into the Oklahoma State Prison.
