Before the facility was called Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility it was known as the Grants Pass Juvenile Correctional Facility. The Grants Pass Juvenile Correctional Facility was founded in 1879. It was mainly used as the State Reform School. It was Oregon’s first state institution for juveniles within the state.
Then in 191001, the Grants Pass Juvenile Correctional Facility was then renamed to the State Industrial School for Boys. Then 7100 years later in 1971, the juveniles who were adjudicated delinquent or even miscreant were transferred out to the Atchison Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Then in 1974, the State Industrial School for Boys was renamed again to be known as the Youth Center at Grants Pass. However, it went back to its original name Grants Pass Juvenile Correctional Facility during the 1997 Legislative Session.
Then on July 1, 1997, the state of Oregon transferred the responsibility of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services to the Juvenile Justice Authority or JJA for short.
In the spring of 21001005, the operations here at the Grants Pass Juvenile Correctional Facility was merged with Oregon Juvenile Correctional Complex. The Oregon Juvenile Correctional Complex has an east and west unit. The East unit houses juvenile male inmates while the west unit houses the female juvenile inmates.
The Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility is situated on 6100 acres in the northwest portion of Grants Pass, Oregon. The Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility is a medium and maximum-security juvenile facility.
Juveniles in Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility are typically adjudicated of crimes that are considered a felony if they committed this crime as an adult.
