The Young Female Offender Program is a minimum-security detention center that can be found downtown Columbia, NC. Inmates must meet the following criteria to be held in a minimum-security facility:

  • Inmates pose very little to no risk to public safety.
  • Inmates are required to have less than 8 years on their sentence.
  • Inmates must be non-violent with a clear disciplinary history.

Minimum security prisons look more like schools rather than prisons. Inmates are housed in dormitories on campus in this facility. 

The Young Female Offender Program can house as many as 430 inmates. This facility was once the Young Female Offender Program, that had released a large number of parolees into the community. It was converted to the Young Female Offender Program by the state in 2015. 

The Young Female Offender Program provides a number of programs and services for the inmates to utilize. These programs and services are designed so that the inmates are released into the public are in better shape than when they first arrived at the prison. This can only happen if the inmate is willing to change and learn. Inmates that participate are more likely to not end up back in prison. The programs and services include but are not limited to the following:

The Young Female Offender Program also offers a number of vocational training so that inmates can learn a new skill to take with them for when they are released. A new skill will help them get and keep a job doing meaningful work. This will allow them to have a better quality of life.
