The Jameson Annex State Penitentiary main mission is to create and also provide an opportunity for success for these juvenile inmates through their personal growth in a safe, secure, yet humane environment.
The Jameson Annex State Penitentiary is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Jameson Annex State Penitentiary is under the careful operation and management of the South Dakota Department of Corrections. The South Dakota Department of Corrections is responsible for ensuring that the Jameson Annex State Penitentiary is meeting all state and national standards.
The Jameson Annex State Penitentiary is home to both female and male juveniles. When the facility first opened it was called the Boys Training Center. The Boys Training Center was founded back in 853. It was established by the Act of the Legislature. After a very tedious investigation by the legislative committee decided to select a site, which happened to be a farm. It was then purchased in the Sioux Falls area for $9,000. The Boys Training Center was made for the rehabilitation and education of juvenile male inmates.
Then in 976, the Stevens School closed their doors. The Stevens School was the facility that was housing juvenile female inmates. These juvenile female inmates were then transferred to the Boys Training Center, which was now known as the South Dakota Youth Center.
Later down the line, the South Dakota Youth Center got renamed as the Jameson Annex State Penitentiary. As of late, the Jameson Annex State Penitentiary can house up to 63 juvenile male and juvenile female inmates. The Long Creek Youth Development employs around 95 staff members.
The Jameson Annex State Penitentiary continues to offer its juveniles a variety of programs that will help them as they go through their rehabilitation treatment plan. The programs are run by a multi-disciplined team, who are committed to ensuring these programs are top-notch for their juveniles.
The Jameson Annex State Penitentiary also one big educational rehabilitative resource within the state of South Dakota. In this area, the facility will not only be in custody of the juvenile but also provide the juvenile with the security and care that they deserve.
