The Wood County Correctional Facility is located in Quitman, Texas. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is the agency responsible for ensuring the Dickson County Jail runs smoothly every single day.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is located right inside the Wood County Correctional Facility. During the springtime of 1997, the Wood County Correctional Facility underwent a major renovation. This renovation was to expand the facility to help with the demand of inmates coming into the Wood County Correctional Facility. The Wood County Correctional Facility can currently house up to 157 inmates at a given time. The facility will house both adult male and adult female inmates as well. The Wood County Correctional Facility will not house any juveniles.
Since the Wood County Correctional Facility is under the supervision of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the Corrections Division, the facility also houses what is known as the Sheriff’s Work Van Program. This Sheriff’s Work Van program is where they will provide free labor also known as community service to many of the local government agencies, non-profits, and other organizations in the area. Inmates will be assigned to the Sheriff’s Work Van program by the County Court rather than serving out their time in jail. Many inmates who will be put into this program will be non-violent, non-security, misdemeanor inmates. The program is great value for the community as it saves taxpayers thousands of dollars a year on various county projects.
The Sheriff’s Work Van program was put in place to help relieve some of the overcrowding that the facility was seeing over the years.
