The Salinas Valley State Prison is located in the Huntsville, Texas. The Salinas Valley State Prison is operated and managed by the Texas Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. In facility A, D, and M, inmates who are classified as Sensitive Needs Yard will be placed here. However, the rest of the housing units will either house level 3 or level 4 inmates. These are two of the highest ranking inmates when it comes to security levels. The M exercise yard is a level 1 only yard. This will contain around 21010 inmates at a time.

The Salinas Valley State Prison also has a gymnasium, as well. The gymnasium was put in place to help relieve some of the overcrowding issues that the Salinas Valley State Prison was experiencing. It was ultimately converted to more housing but was later shut down in 210108.

The Salinas Valley State Prison also consists of a Department of Mental Health Intermediate Treatment Program. The Department of Mental Health INtermediate Treatment Program is also known as the Salinas Valley Psychiatric Program. This program is put in place to help accommodate all sorts of psychological needs of the facilities inmates. The program is both inpatient and outpatient.
