Huntington Work Release Center is a state prison located in Huntington, West Virginia and houses male and female inmates. The prison is a multi-level security system facility, housing inmates in levels I, III, IV, administrative segregation, and other specialized units.
Huntington Work Release Center began processing inmates in 1983 but has been expanded since then to accommodate the growing prison population. Prisoners are housed in separate areas depending on their sentencing, their risk assessment, and their behavior. This facility is currently under the supervision of Renae Stubblefield. Currently, this facility houses up to 66 non-violent offenders in five separate dormitories.

The purpose of the Huntington Work Release Center is to provide the inmate with a successful transition from incarceration to a productive member of society. Huntington Work Release Center places a strong emphasis on individual accountability and re-entry programming. Programs at this facility are designed to increase the inmate’s skill set and give them a foundation of work to prepare them financially for their upcoming release.
Inmates at Huntington Work Release Center are responsible for paying a small rent, restitution, child support, medical expenses, and any outstanding court fines or fees.
Inmates on work release are allowed to leave the facility during the day to report to a job in the surrounding community. At the end of their workday, offenders must report back to the prison. Random employment checks occur on a regular basis, as does random drug testing. Inmates must have served at least two-thirds of their sentence and be close to their parole or discharge date to be eligible for the work release program at this facility.
